Line Scores is a new drawing and dance performance by Sidney Pink. The performance includes dance, live drawing, and a dynamic sound scape created by the drawing process itself. Pink leads a series of cycles where dance informs live drawings, the drawings inform the dance, and back again.
Pink creates gestural drawings in direct reaction to live dancers moving in the performance space. Those drawings then act as a visual dance score for the performer’s next series of movements. Dancers use the quality of marks and line in the drawings as scores to inform their movement style, gesture, and tempo. Those new movements then inform the next round of drawings creating an endless cycle of translation and nonverbal conversation between Pink and the dancers. Pink also moves with the dancers blurring the line between subject and artist. The work starts to become more about communication and collaboration between different artistic languages.
